Botanical Beach

We had an opportunity during leave to drive up to Port Renfrew and visit the Botanical Beach.  This is a raw area of land that is along the Straight of Juan de Fuca and has some wonderful tide pools that you go walk out to and check what is new in the neighborhood.

Particularly interesting was watching six crabs fight for a hiding place under a log in a pool, and seeing how many starfish we could find.  They were very tiny.  Its very fascinating to look at all the pools in the rocks that time and weather have carved out.  One can spend the whole day there as long as you keep an eye on the tide.

It was Akira's first trip too and she did pretty good on a long walk 4 km in total and then exploring the beach.  So many new smells for a puppy to check out, though I think she was more interested in climbing some of the sandstone walls that had been polished up by tidal waves.
