L7 Black and white

In the spring of the year I made a quilt from Me and My Sister Designs called L7. I had been saving a collection of black and white prints for what seemed the longest time and finally decided this was the pattern for all those pieces of fabric. I must say it was a charm to work on as the pattern is simple to follow and it came together beautifully. The bad news was I had enough blocks that I could have made two KING size quilts. Needless to say in the quest for being thrifty, I put aside the left over blocks and decided that they would be quilts down the road.

Sadly it took me a while to get the top done with all the other projects that I had on the go, but here she is.  I added a border around it, to pull it all together and I am pleased with how it looks. Please forgive me cause I thought I had taken a photo but when I went through my photos, I realized that I did not take the photo.

Black and White

I had a HUGE pile of black and white scraps that I wanted to get whittled down and use up. I admit that I wanted something quick and speedy and the pattern by Me and My Sister Designs called L7 fit the bill. It was relaxing making this quilt or should I say quilts as I had enough to make two. I added to the initial pattern to make it 52 x 64 before putting on the outside border.

With the leftovers I made a baby quilt, rather than using the bits for the backing. And them after that I found another 11 blocks buried under a pile of fabric beside the sewing table. That will teach me to have six projects on the go at the same time. That said while the quilts uses the same block and some of the same fabrics they look different when compared to one another. Now my biggest problem is to find a place to photograph them all without rain or mud interfering with the crisp white background.

Apologies for not showing the whole quilt but I did not have it totally bound and was running out of time before my flight departed to get a picture done of the quilting.  My personal favorite thing about this quilt is the back, in a black and white chevron minky fabric that I found in the remanent bin at my fabric store.  Got to love that.

Black and White

I had a HUGE pile of black and white scraps that I wanted to get rid of and use up. I admit that I wanted something quick and speedy and the pattern by Me and My Sister Designs fits the bill. The pattern is called L7. It was relaxing making this quilt or should I say quilts as I had enough to make two.

The first one I made into the larger quilt as depicted on the pattern cover.  I decided on a strong black border with this one that draws the eye into the pieces in the quilt. There are some pretty neat pieces of fabric in this quilt too.  Like little birds, raindrops to name a few.

The second one is a baby quilt size.  I found some great minky in a chevron pattern of black and white that I will use for the back of this quilt. It will be fabulous.  I'm not sure what I like better the backing fabric or the outer border of diagonal black and white candy cane stripes.

The final quilt is also a baby quilt using the left over block but this time I used a border fabric that has a bit of red mixed with black and white. I'm thinking that a red minky or flannel will suit this quilt very nicely along with a red solid binding.

Rainbow Rail Fence

Finished baby quilt

I finally got the binding on the this baby and can call it done.  I had it quilted last summer and didn't get time to complete the edges before leaving for Petawawa.  Some of it was due to  not being able to find the right fabric for binding. I think I went through three different fabrics until I finally found this confetti binding. Even with finding that binding, I still hoped to have it done before the end of the year but best laid plans!

Anyways this quilt it a design by Me and My Sisters Design.  I really like this design company as they have a variety of different patterns that are easy to understand and easy to put together.  Pair the designs with moderns fabrics and you have a lovely quilt.

The other good thing about this rainbow pattern is it allowed me to use up a lot of scraps of fabric that I had from other projects. Awesome!

The Politically Correct Cowboys and Aboringinal People Quilt

I have been trying to be diligent and use up fabric that has been in the closet way to long. You know the pieces that you just have to have cause they are so beautiful but you don't want to cut into them or the novelty prints that you aren't quite sure how to use? Yeah,  I know you have them in your stash too. Since the novelty print pile is at my eye level and it is counting about 16 meters/ 16 cuts, I thought I would start whittling them down.

As I was working on a quilt top using one of a trio of patterns from Me and My Sister designs, I thought I would test out another pattern of theirs and see how that went.  It went well.  Easy to follow and put together.  The hardest thing for me was deciding on what fabrics I was going to use.

from me and my sister designs Easy as 7-8-9

Anyways I pulled out this subtly shaded western print.  Not sure who the fabric line is now or even if you could find it. All i can tell you is it has a cowboy and Indian and bank robber theme.  Since its now politically incorrect to use the term Indian and it can be confused with other Indian groups, I named the quilt Cowboys and Aboriginal People quilt. It measures 40X 41 inches and is backed in a multi colored green flannel.
