Hugs and Kisses

I was going thru the scraps and decided that I have to get to work in using up the oodles of scraps that are piling up.  Good thing I have been looking for some scrappy quilts patterns so I can use things up.  Its amazing how fast they pile up.

For this week I will be working on the a block called Hugs and Kisses from Little Miss Shabby.  I have seen this block used before in a scrappy boy quilt when it was chosen as one of the bee blocks earlier in the year. Its quite effective.

So I decided to use it to use up scraps of pink, orange and yellow with a bit of white thrown in.  I can believe how old some of these pink fabric scraps are... Amazing... And more than enough time to see them gone out of the scrap pile. I'm not sure how big this will be, most likely a large baby size.

September Bee Blocks

One of my jobs during the long weekend was to work on the blocks for this month’s bee. Last month, I made the Swoon blocks for the first time which was a nice pleasure to do.  I can’t wait to find a fabric line I love and make some more of them!

For September, our task is to make blocks for a boy using a tutorial from Little Miss Shabby. If you are looking for some good tutorials to use up those scraps, take a look at her ideas for using them up.  They really help make a dint in the pile of growing scraps that all quilters accumulate unless they are absolutely ruthless with how much they will keep. Me I am not the ruthless type!  LOL.

Unfortunately being separated from my scrap bin and only having a small assortment of fabrics with me in barracks and most of them assigned to projects, I had to go and get some fabrics to do this month’s blocks.  Naughty, I know cause we are to use what we have in the stash, but I think I will be forgiven due to my unusual circumstances.
We were asked to make two blocks using colors of blue, green, brown, orange and red.  I had to search hard for fabrics that were more in the modern end of the spectrum and let me tell you it wasn’t easy when faced with mostly country insipid kinda material options.

Since there wasn’t a sample posted I’m not sure if the tones are what is hoped for but they look pretty good to me. I am hoping with the rest of the groups blocks they won’t stand out too much.
As for the pattern, I certainly would use this pattern again.  I can see using up a pile of floral fat quarters that I have lurking in my sewing room.  I really like what the solid white does to make a secondary pattern. You know this might be just the right pattern to use up all those bright batiks that I have and use black instead of white to make the second pattern.
