Holy Cow Batman

If you read the post about the Superman quilt, you know I was making some quilts for little boys. I found the Batman fabric relatively easily but this time instead of not liking the block, I didn't like how the fabrics played together.  It was too busy, too much color ( I know weird for me to say) and just unappealing.

On a shopping trip to a local quilt store I found a lovely Batman fabric who's colors were much nicer and decided to use it as the base for the quilt. I added some blue and yellow fabrics, cut out strips and then re sewed them to make a 8"block.  I added in solid blue to make the blocks go further and them laid out the quilt in a pleasing manner.  The quilting is the energetic pantograph in a blue thread that blends it all together.

August Joy Bee Blocks

Its my turn once more to host and choose the bee blocks for Joy do. good stitches.  I had been going through all the blocks I had chosen as a favorites and kept on changing my mind on what to do. In the end I thought I would do a block that is a simple HST ( half square triangle) and when put all together it reminds me of the God's eye craft made out of Popsicle sticks and yarn.

The colors were chosen using a layout from Design Seeds.  I love that sight for color inspiration and wonderful photography. As you can see the colors are colors of the water and sand and a bit of moonlight (light grey) thrown in.

I think it is going to be a gorgeous quilt when it is all done. And since it is all HST's I might have to use this block pattern to use up some of those charm packs I have stashed away in the closet.

Blue Goose

Fons and Porter in their Jan issue (I think) had a quilt that was made of scraps of blue and white fabric.  Since I need to whittle down the scraps I decided to make this quilt and use up some of my blue scraps.

I used a simple tutorial on fast flying geese and whipped them up in an evening reacquainting myself with Harry Potter.  Those went pretty fast.

Even the strip pieces went together quickly as well if not more of a challenge due to the length and wanting to use up big hunks of white fabric. But I prevailed over the challenges and the top was made.

It makes me wonder if I have enough red and black scraps to make another version in this color way!
