When I was in Hawaii, I stopped at the Maui quilt store and took home a great stash of fabric. While I do not normally buy kits, they had this sweet baby boy quilt featuring fabrics in a sea life/ shark line. It is made of simple squares and a border print that pulls it all together. Add a soft fluffy batting and you have a great baby quilt.
Along with a pattern that will be good to duplicate over and over again for other baby quilts needed in a hurry. Not sure how it will be quilted but I am thinking about something with bubbles or waves!
This blog is the collision of my hobbies (scrapbooking & quilting) as well as my professional interests.

Owl be seeing you Kid
One of my colleagues had a grandson born a month ago. The wives of the chaplains and me held a baby shower. I only go to these things to have some baby time. Newborns are so wonderful and little Robert is no exception. What a sweetie.
His mom, likes owls and when I heard that I went on the hunt for some owl fabric. I had some at home in BC but it doesn't do me much good 3000 km away. I found some that had some nice boy colors in it and went to town.
The quilt has some solid prints in soft moss green and teal, along with some other prints to make it interesting. The quilt is made of rectangles and is set on the diagonal. Easy peasy to put together. I think I wasted more time trying to figure out what color to place where.
The pattern has come from a recent Fresh Quilts magazine except on their version they put on an applique fox which was pretty cute. I did not have enough time to applique a owl so I just left it off, but the overall look is good. And for extra good measure I used the left over owl fabric on the back.
I have just enough scraps to make a scrappy 3"block baby quilt. The rate I am needing baby quilts, this bunch of left overs might save my bacon!

Jungle Bungle Remix
Back when the snow was flying one of the Joy do good stitches ladies requested a block called the Jungle Bungle. The block was from one of my favorite bloggers, Sew Crafty Jess. The block itself is simple, square center with a border in white followed by a larger border. Easy peasy and makes a great baby quilt.
Since I always have need for some baby quilts to be ready to give away I decided to use up some of my Riley Blake collection that I have squirreled away for boy quilts. I don't know about you but I often find it hard to find boy prints in my LQS often having to get them online instead.
The blocks took me an afternoon to make and then in the spirit of being thrifty I decided to use up some long lengths of fabric in coordinating colors to lengthen the quilt. Of course it has a flannel backing and polyester batting that gets nice and fluffy when washed.
Arlene did the quilting on this one. The quilting reminds me of swirling ocean waves as it moves across the quilt in its variegated thread. Come to think of it I think I need to make a few more of these blocks. Very effective no matter what way you want to place the block.

Simply Patchwork
Trying to be diligent and use up scraps, I made this simple patchwork quilt. This has fabrics from two different projects in it, so I think I have been very thrifty. The flannel I purchased at Fabricland during a sale, for less than $3/ meter which is a super good deal. Even the batting is scraps that were pieced together using the heat and press tape. So far I have been having good luck with that stuff.
Anyways, these are 4.5" squares pieced randomly to make the quilt top that I think is more boyish.
The back is a mossy green flannel and the binding is yet another 1/2
meter cut that I was able to use up from the stash. Arlene quilted it using a simple leaf motif that is effective and subtle. It is 36 X 48 inches, a good size for a crib or covering up a baby carrier. While my patches aren't as cool as Rita's from Red Pepper Quilts is I think there is something very charming about it. Maybe its the Riley Blake Lions!
